The inaugural AGIC India conference in Mumbai marked a new chapter in the Australia–India grains relationship, laying the groundwork for long-term collaboration and shared growth in the region.
Held on 9 April 2025, the event brought together Australian and Indian supply chain and agri-food stakeholders to explore shared priorities — from food security and innovation to trade facilitation and value chain alignment.
Grain Trade Australia CEO, Pat O’Shannassy, officially opened the conference, noting:
“We know strong relationships are built on confidence, trust, and sharing knowledge. AGIC conferences play an important role in building those connections and creating space for new ideas to emerge.”
Australian Deputy High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Nicholas McCaffrey, also addressed delegates, reinforcing the Australian Government’s ongoing commitment to deepening agricultural ties and cooperation with India.
The conference was followed by a series of Roundtable meetings with Indian industry, government, and institutional stakeholders, further strengthening engagement and exploring practical opportunities for cooperation.
While this was the first AGIC-branded event in India, it builds on a successful AgTech Forum hosted in Delhi in September 2024, which attracted more than 150 participants and set the tone for continued dialogue.
A key message throughout AGIC India was that Australia’s grains industry aims to collaborate, contribute, and complement India’s agri-food ambitions – without directly competing. Delegates also explored the potential for a Strategic Grain Partnership, underpinned by shared goals and mutual benefit.
AGIC India was proudly supported by AGIC corporate supporters, Austrade South Asia, the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, and the Agricultural Counsellor in India, Kiran Karamil.
